The redevelopment project of Bahía Urbana seeks to redesign the spaces of this emblematic portuary zone at the southern entry of Old San Juan. This project is a new door that will open to show the world what makes Puerto Rico so magical, transporting visitors through 500 years of history.
With Bahía Urbana, a space will open to show the world how our music, sports, gastronomy, and natural beauty make us shine.
It also represents the resurgence of Puerto Rico through Bahía Urbana.
One thing that has made us shine worldwide is our musical artists, who express themselves from the bottom of their hearts through their hands, their strings, and lyrics. Because of this, Bahía Urbana will include a space for them to express themselves to the world: the amphitheater.
This amphitheater will be a place to display new talents, and a stage for the already established stars of Puerto Rican music. It will have ample outdoor space for its visitors to enjoy.
Part of our vision at Bahía Urbana is to elevate the Puerto Rican experience to new heights. This is the reason why Bahía Urbana will provide a unique perspective to our visitors with a 360° panoramic view from an observation tower so that everyone can see how truly beautiful the wonders of our Island are.
At the top of the tower, our visitors will be able to see our entire northern coast including El Yunque to the east.
This unique 360 degree view from 200 feet will allow anyone at the top to have a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean to the north, up to the Escambrón Beach.
Our Floating Islands will offer a space to sample the many beach-related activities we enjoy, such as water sports and swimming.
It will also serve as a space to relax after exercising. The space will include a hammock area for those visitors who want to relax even more on the first urban beach in the Caribbean, making the area a much-needed oasis in the city.
The Urban Forest will provide a place where visitors can get to know the flora and fauna of our forests. Here, families can come face to face with nature and enjoy native plant species surrounded by the emblematic sounds of the rainy and mountainous areas of Puerto Rico that have inspired songs and poems for hundreds of years.
It will also include thousands of square feet of pure nature that will transport you to places like El Yunque or Cerro Punta, right here in San Juan. This Urban Forest will have an educational area led by a team dedicated to the conservation of nature by teaching our youngest visitors and the young at heart.
Bahía Urbana will have a space full of flavors, aromas, colors, and life with cafes, restaurants, and little shops with a unique gastronomy that incorporates its influences from so many parts of the world; African, Caribbean, and Spanish.
There will also be a beautiful Mercado de Pueblo, the center for local artisans to display their work in the open air and evoke the different market squares of our beautiful towns in Puerto Rico. Here you will be able to buy your fruits and vegetables while enjoying the breeze from San Juan Bay.
At night the area will become a vibrant and colorful meeting place where our visitors can enjoy outdoor food, music, and the emblematic atmosphere of our public squares.
